THE GRATITUDE DIARIES

Another week, another instalment of The Gratitude Diaries – apart from it’s apparently been almost three weeks! How did that happen? September seems to have run away with us, but I did say that it wouldn’t be a regular thing, so I’m not too angry at myself. This post doesn’t need much introduction by now, so let’s get straight into it! Here are 10 things I’m grateful for this week.

STUDENT DISCOUNT

For a month, I was without student discount as I transitioned between undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, but I’ve picked up my new ID card, and I’m back, baby! There’s a sweet 20% off ASOS right now, so I’m sure you can expect another haul video very soon!

DOMINO’S

Are you a Domino’s or a Pizza Hut person? I’m definitely a Domino’s gal through and through, and this week I had my first Domino’s pizza in months after finishing a little takeaway spending ban. It’s true what they say: treats taste so much better when you’ve earned them!

KEW GARDENS

I live within walking distance of Kew Gardens AKA the most beautiful green space in London. However, it’s very rare that I actually take a trip inside unless I’m taking blog photos. Yesterday, Ollie and I went to scout out some autumn leaves, and it was wonderful. Having grown up in the country, I really miss the peace, fresh air and solitude that comes with living on the edge of a forest, but Kew Gardens is a nice substitute for the time being. I really should make the most of it during the time I’m here! Watch yesterday’s vlog here!

CHUNKY KNIT JUMPERS

Over the last week, I’ve worn a different chunky knit jumper every single day, and I’m loving life! I’m at my happiest when I’m wrapped up in a snuggly knit, partly because it’s cosy and warm, but mostly because I don’t need to wear a bra! With autumn and winter come more braless days. Win!

HOTEL HOT CHOCOLATE SACHETS

There’s something about the crappy hot chocolate that comes crammed into mugs in hotel rooms that makes me very happy. My dad is a tour leader around Great Britain, and I always ask him to bring back the sachets of hot chocolate from the hotel rooms. A little odd, but I love them!

SAILOR MOON CRYSTAL

When I was a child, I adored the English dub of Sailor Moon, and when I was a little older, I binge watched all five seasons of the original Japanese anime, along with all of the bonus episodes and films. It’s where my love for Japan, J-pop and the Japanese language began, so Sailor Moon has a lot of happy associations for me. For some reason, I’ve been feeling really low and anxious this week, so I decided to watch the first season of the 2014 reboot, Sailor Moon Crystal, and it was like I was 11 again! I felt all the worries of the world lift, and it was wonderful for a short time.

RADIO ONE

With my new homeware additions came a Lumie Body Clock, and although it’s primarily an alarm clock, I’ve been loving the radio functionality! I realised I don’t really listen to music much any more, so it’s been great discovering new artists and taking my own musical inspiration from that. I also find that I’m much more productive when I can hear Radio One specifically – isn’t that strange?!

PIANO LESSONS

This week I recorded my first cover video in forever, and I did it for the love of it, rather than trying to push out a new song. It made me think about how lucky I am to be able to play the piano years after learning it. I’m grateful to my parents for starting my piano lessons when I was 4, and letting me continue them until I was 18. Being able to play an instrument is such a privilege!

MY PARENTS

Speaking of my parents, this week I had one of those moments where I realised how lucky I am to have them. They’re incredibly supportive of everything I do, both emotionally and financially – they’re letting me live with them at the age of 22, for goodness’ sake! I’m very close to them, and I realise that not everybody has that kind of relationship with their parents. I don’t take it for granted, folks!

MY BACHELOR’S DEGREE

My undergraduate degree was responsible for some of the worst moments of my life, so I never thought I’d be grateful for it. However, here I am including it in The Gratitude Diaries! This week, I started my Master’s degree and in my first seminar, I realised that, despite everything, I learned a thing or two from those three years of hell. So, if it helps me on this next chapter of my life, then I’m grateful for that at the very least!
