SUMMER GOALS

I have officially finished my degree, and as I wait anxiously to find out whether I’ve done enough, I’m trying to fill my time with all of the things I’ve been desperately waiting to do. If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know from my story that I’m fortunate enough to be in a position where I’m living at home with parents who are willing to support me while I figure things out. My mum is my biggest fan, so of course, she wants me to succeed with my music more than anybody else! For that reason, I’m working on my blog, my YouTube channels and a few other things full time right now, and I couldn’t be more excited about it. Science has shown that you’re more likely to achieve your goals if you write them down, so I thought I’d go a step further and share them with the world! That way, I’ve got you guys to hold me accountable! Without further ado, here are my five goals for the summer of 2017.

UPLOAD 4 VIDEOS PER WEEK MINIMUM

Writing that down makes me wonder if I’m taking on too much. 4 or more videos per week seems like an awful lot, but so far, it’s almost been a breeze now that I’m not juggling a degree alongside them! In case you didn’t know, I have two YouTube channels – one for music, and one for fashion and lifestyle. Firstly, I’ll be uploading two music videos a week onto my main channel, including my own music in the very near future. Secondly, I’ll be uploading two or three videos onto my second channel, including a fashion or beauty video and a more personal chatty video, as well as a daily or weekly vlog if it suits. It means I’ve had to drastically reduce my perfectionist tendencies, but in all honesty, I couldn’t be happier to be spending so much time on the thing I love most.

WRITE 3 POSTS PER WEEK

I feel like I’ve found my blogging groove over the last few months so it’s pained me to be unable to write more than one post per week if I’m lucky! Now I’ve got more free time, I’m excited to share three posts a week, just like the good old days! Though my personal style isn’t exactly cohesive, I love the way my posts are taking shape at the moment, and I feel like I’m developing a recognisable brand. Not only do Ollie and I improve as a photography team every day, but the recent improvements to my blog design have allowed me more creativity when designing my posts, and my writing style has developed to a place where I’m happy with it. I think I’ve established my style and I finally feel comfortable calling myself a fashion blogger.

OPEN MY STATIONERY SHOP

Time For Bees is a website Ollie and I developed in November with the intention of raising awareness for bees. It was somewhat rushed, and though our Instagram is going strong, everything else fell to the wayside as final year took over. However, Ollie recently got a job beekeeping full time, meaning some very interesting content for our Instagram stories, and I’ve been working on some adorable designs for the stationery shop which I plan to open over the summer. A portion of the profits will be going towards a number of bee charities, so if you like bees, honey and stationery, make sure you’re the first to know about the products by following us on Instagram and Twitter!

LEARN TO CODE

Thanks to my struggles with my mental health at university, the possibility of missing out on that all important 2.1 is becoming ever more real, and I need to build up a desirable skill set to make up for it. I’d consider myself fairly well versed in photography, videography and graphic design, but we all know that coding is the next big thing. My skills in HTML are basic at the moment, so I recently started learning to code with Codecademy. Putting names and functions to features I already knew how to use has been enlightening, and I’m actually really enjoying it! My inner tech geek has really come out to play and I’m fully embracing it.

BECOME A FREELANCER

Despite battling the fear of missing out on a 2.1, my degree doesn’t even have a place in my vision of the future. I never planned on having a 9-5 office job, because it was always going to be music, so the prospect of landing a role that won’t fulfil my creative streak just because it’s stable is extremely depressing to me. As millennial as it sounds, I would dearly like to try my hand at freelance work. I have the skills to dabble in a few areas, so we’ll see what comes of it. At the moment, I’m not even sure how to begin, and it’s a little bit overwhelming. However, I’m sure I’ll figure things out, even if nothing comes of it!
