A FEW RECENT FAVOURITES
In case I hadn’t moaned about it enough, university is taking its toll on me at the moment. I’m struggling to find the time to shower, let alone blog, so I thought I’d take things easy today and share a few of my recent favourites with you. I tried my hand at monthly favourites last year, but I found it really difficult to gather enough bits and bobs to talk about at the end of the month. However, there have been a few beauty and skincare products that I’ve been desperate to share in recent months, so I thought I’d bring favourites back to the blog in an ‘as and when’ format. If you’d rather watch the first edition in video form, with fancy cutaways, demonstrations of the products and a few music and film extras, then scroll down to the bottom of the post, or click here. If you prefer pictures and words, then what are we waiting for? Let’s get stuck in!
BAREMINERALS COMPLEXION RESCUE
Thanks to my snazzy new skincare routine, my skin has been looking better than ever recently. Because of that, I’ve found myself feeling comfortable wearing nothing more than a tinted moisturiser, and my product of choice is Complexion Rescue by bareMinerals. Despite being very light coverage, I love the way my skin looks in this, along with the help of a bit of concealer and powder. Not only is it mineral-based and free of nasties, but it’s deeply hydrating and pollution resistant, making it perfect for skin which faces the city everyday.
NARS ORGASM ILLUMINATOR
I used to make every effort to mattify my face with powder and heavy foundation when I was younger, but these days, I’m all about that glow. For a subtle, everyday highlight with an added rosy tint, I’ve been applying NARS Illuminator in Orgasm underneath my tinted moisturiser. Formulated in the same shade as the famous cult blusher of the same name, this is the perfect product for replicating a healthy glow that suits all skin tones. The packaging is travel friendly and the longevity of this product is incredible, so despite the higher price point, it’s well worth the investment.
NO7 STAY PERFECT LIQUID EYELINER
This is a product that I bought on an impulse, and if I’d read the reviews beforehand, I might not have bothered. However, I’m getting on really well with the No7 Stay Perfect Liquid Eyeliner, so it goes to show reviews aren’t everything! This is a blacker than black eyeliner with a pointed plastic nib which makes application a dream. It certainly isn’t waterproof, but that’s the only criticism I can make about this liner, and even then, I don’t find it too much of an issue. While felt tip style liners will always have a place in my heart, the plastic nib has won me over, and I doubt I’ll ever go back to a brush after using this!
RIMMEL THE ONLY 1 MATTE IN TRENDSETTER
Bloggers everywhere were raving about Rimmel’s new matte lipstick offering at the time of the launch, so when I discovered one in my goody bag from my internship at Marie Claire, I was over the moon! I received the shade Trendsetter, a nude brown which couldn’t suit my preferences more. The scent is overpowering at first, and the formula is ever so slightly drying, but the pigmentation on this lipstick is incredible. It’s comfortable to wear and easy to apply – a great matte formula at a drugstore price. Winning! I wore it in one of my latest posts, so click here to see what it looks like on.
YVES SAINT LAURENT MON PARIS
I received Mon Paris by Yves Saint Laurent as a very thoughtful Christmas gift from my boyfriend’s mum after she saw it on my blog wishlist. Smart thinking there! During my trip to Copenhagen in December, I spritzed this everyday in the local department store, so I was overjoyed to open this up. With top notes of strawberry, pear and orange, it’s a fruity, feminine and fun scent, housed in a beautiful glass bottle embellished with ribbon and leather. Despite being the perfect fragrance for young women, it has a touch of class and elegance – everything I look for in a perfume.
THE HERO PROJECT GLOW DROPS
I raved about this product in my recent skincare routine post, and I couldn’t resist doing the same here! Glow Drops is a facial oil by a brand fittingly named The Hero Project. The brand’s mission is to create products which are the best of the best, giving customers value for money and banishing our bulging beauty cupboards full of products that don’t really work. Well, Glow Drops is certainly working for me! It smells incredible, feels incredible and lasts forever. Click here to read my full review if I haven’t convinced you already!
THIS WORKS DEEP SLEEP PILLOW SPRAY
I think I’m the last person to jump on the hype surrounding this product, but I thought I’d mention it anyway. I’ve been struggling with my sleep for well over six months now, and while I can’t say the Deep Sleep Pillow Spray has revolutionised my slumber, it’s helped me develop an effective bed time routine. It’s full of all those sleepy scents, including lavender and chamomile, and for me, it’s definitely helped with reducing any anxiety that flares up when my head hits the pillow. As soon as I smell this, I feel more relaxed and able to drift off. Now I just need to find something that improves the quality of my sleep!
SUDIO SWEDEN VASA BLA EARPHONES*
I’ve always preferred earbuds over the hard plastic affair which fall out of your ears and ensure everybody else on the train can hear your music. The quality of the music is always so much better through ear buds, so I was chuffed to receive this gorgeous rose gold pair from Sudio Sweden. Not only are they beautiful, but the bass and noise cancellation are incredible. They’re wireless, too, making them perfect for any iPhone 7 users out there! Sudio kindly offered me a 15% discount code for my readers, so if you fancy a pair of highly Instagrammable earphones, simply type in marthajedwards15 on the Sudio website!
INSIDE VOGUE BY ALEXANDRA SHULMAN
Finally, I rarely talk about books I’m reading, because it’s usually academic theory! However, I recently read Inside Vogue by Alexandra Shulman, and it was really interesting. I’m fascinated by the politics and economics of the print publication industries, so I really enjoyed reading about it from the perspective of a woman at the head of the most successful women’s magazine in the UK. Alexandra Shulman is a funny character, so reading what is essentially her edited diary was extremely insightful. One for any Vogue fanatics out there, and it looks great on the coffee table, too!
